Context

  • Tourism is a major economic factor in the Dominican Republic
  • Main focus: beach package tourism, but diversified niche markets such as ecotourism are gaining importance
  • International markets increasingly demand sustainable practices / transnational corporations are often drivers of sustainability practices in the Dominican Republic
  • Good level of (higher) education in tourism management in RD, but sustainability not yet in focus

Aims

  • Knowledge transfer: state-of-the-art in sustainable tourism in university seminars for local and European students
  • Application of gained knowledge in practical case studies
  • International exchange of experiences and know-how for both students and lecturers
